About Me

Mehdi Valiee is an Iranian jewellery designer, educator, and artistic researcher whose work explores the relationship between philosophy, meaning, and narrative through jewellery, photography, writing, and material-based inquiry.

With more than nineteen years of professional experience in jewellery design and education, his practice moves across making, teaching, observation, and research. His work is driven by questions surrounding memory, identity, materiality, cultural traces, and lived experience.

Valiee approaches artistic practice as an act of observation and narration. A fragment of wood, an overlooked detail within a historical monument, a silent landscape, or a fleeting moment in nature can become the starting point for a new investigation. Through artistic making and critical reflection, he seeks to reveal hidden narratives embedded within materials, places, and human experience.

His research is informed by contemporary Artistic Research and Practice-Led Research methodologies, with a particular focus on how knowledge emerges through material engagement, reflection, making, and creative practice. Rather than treating the artwork as an endpoint, he views artistic practice as a process of inquiry through which meaning is continuously constructed, questioned, and reimagined.

Current areas of interest include Contemporary Jewellery, Material Narratives, Ecological Storytelling, Memory and Identity, Philosophy of Art, Visual Narratives, and Practice-Led Artistic Research.

At the core of his practice lies an ongoing exploration of how philosophy becomes meaning, and how meaning becomes narrative.
